I am seriously concerned at the lack of context regarding the Taiwanese Government response to the typhoon. I believe that your reporters are either ignorant, or have been bought off by the KMT.
You make no comment on the refusal of foreign aid from USA and Japan, and the initial complete lack of concern.
President Ma (and now chairman of KMT) attended a wedding and other functions after the typhoon struck. He refused to send enough soldiers, and apparently did nothing until his photo opportunity appearances days after the event. It seems that the BBC is only interested in promoting the government line. The Taiwanese government had until recently behaved no better than the Burmese generals after Typhoon Nargis.
Good correspondence requires digging for the facts, not just repeating the mantra of an increasingly authoritarian government. On another matter, it would be interesting if you could at least acknowledge that there is an increasingly beleagured opposition in Taiwan, and that the former President is being detained, seemingly permanently, without trial.
I suggest you look at the following webpages, as a start.
